An Oldham housing association has managed to save £760,000 thanks to a new service to combat social housing fraud.
Since September 2017, First Choice Homes Oldham has received 40 reports of fraud from members of the public, customers and employees that have resulted in 26 cases being investigated.
So far ten Right to Buy applications have been stopped due to fraud investigation checks. This has resulted in a potential discount saving of £400,000.
First Choice Homes Oldham has launched a FREE hotline number to help its customers who are worried about Universal Credit. The number is Freephone 0800 1955 440.
Universal Credit is a new benefit for people out of work or on a low income. It is gradually replacing six ‘means-tested’ benefits including Housing Benefit,
Housing association First Choice Homes Oldham is a great employer – that’s according to Investors in People who have awarded it a gold accreditation for the second time.
The organisation has been given the award for commitment shown to employees, their working environment, improving skills and wellbeing.
The organisation also achieved a gold accreditation in 2014, and gained a bronze Investors in People award in 2011.
Nearly £1m has been spent this year on improving 447 homes in Derker, Oldham, which it’s hoped will cut energy bills and improve health.
First Choice Homes Oldham has so far invested £996,000 in a pilot scheme to trial new ways of helping customers who have problems with condensation, including those who haven’t reported any issues.
More than 150 new houses will start being built in Oldham in the next few months to tackle the housing shortage.
There are currently 20,000 people on the housing waiting list in Oldham. These new First Choice Homes Oldham developments in Coleridge Road, Sholver, and Acre Lane, Derker, will help provide much needed homes for local people.
This year’s Growing Together awards evening was another blooming success!
Customers from all over Oldham were brought together through their love of gardening and being able to brighten up not only their own gardens, but their communities too.
The event was organised by First Choice Homes Oldham in partnership with Oldham Council and held on November 7 at local venue Smokies Hotel. It recognised the talents and dedication of its green fingered customers.
