Understand your fire doors during Fire Door Safety Week

We're supporting Fire Door Safety Week 21-25 September to raise awareness of the important role fire doors play in keeping people safe and encouraging customers to report any issues they spot. 

Fire doors are specially designed to slow the spread of fire and smoke, helping to protect escape routes and giving people more time to get to safety in an emergency. 

In our communal blocks of flats, both front entrance doors and communal doors are fire doors. For them to do their job properly, it's important that they are in good condition, free from damage and able to close fully. 

Throughout the year, our Property Safety team carries out regular inspections and maintenance to help ensure fire doors continue to meet safety standards. However, customers can play an important role too by reporting any issues they notice. 

Common problems can include doors that do not close properly, damaged seals, excessive gaps around the door, or doors being wedged open. 

Alex Swift, our Fire Safety Manager, said: "Fire doors are one of the simplest but most effective fire safety measures in a building. They are designed to slow the spread of fire and smoke, helping to protect customers and escape routes if a fire occurs. 

"While we carry out regular inspections, we also encourage customers to let us know if they spot a fire door that appears damaged or isn't working as it should. Reporting issues early helps us investigate and arrange any necessary repairs as quickly as possible." 

During Fire Door Safety Week, we'll be sharing tips, advice and information to help customers understand what fire doors do, how to check if they're working properly and what issues to look out for.
