Change to home contents insurance for customers

06/06/2022

We are pleased to announce that we are now working with Thistle Tenants Risks to offer our customers pay-as-you-go home contents insurance, so you are covered if the worst happens. Thistle will take over the contract from Aviva on Monday 6 June 2022.

Thistle Tenants Risks specialise in home contents insurance policies for social housing customers.

As your landlord, we insure the structure of your home, but the cover doesn’t include what’s inside it, such as furniture and personal belongings.

No matter how careful you are, there’s always a risk that your belongings could be broken, damaged or stolen so home contents insurance can help provide peace of mind, should the worst happen.

Read on to learn what the homes contents insurance policy will cover you for, so you can make an informed decision about whether you need it or not.

Pay As You Go Home Contents Insurance Scheme

The insurance policy protects tenants and leaseholders against theft, water damage and many more household risks. The policy is managed by us, so we collect premiums with rent and charges.

If you had a home contents insurance policy with Aviva, we have already written to you to let you know about the change. You don’t need to do anything.

Benefits of the My Home Contents Insurance Scheme include

  • You don’t need to have special door or window locks (just a lockable front door).
  • Covers theft, water damage, fire and many more household risks.
  • Covers your improvements (up to £2000 or 20% of the sum insured, whichever is the greater).
  • Covers theft or attempted theft of contents in sheds, outbuildings and garages (up to £3,000).
  • Covers damage to external glazing for which you are responsible for.
  • Covers replacement and installation of locks for outside doors or windows and alarms, if keys are lost or stolen.
  • Accidental damage to TV’s and aerials and home computers is covered as standard (excludes items designed to be portable including mobile phones, ipods etc).  Cover for portable items is available under the extended accidental damage optional cover.
  • There’s no excess to pay in the event of a claim.
