Working together to clean up Barker Street

Last month we organised a community action day on the Barker Street estate, working alongside Oldham Council and OL1 Oldham to tackle litter and fly-tipping.

Together, we filled three-and-a-half large skips, while Oldham Council provided additional support through its road sweepers. We also spoke with around 120 residents about responsible waste disposal and the importance of helping to keep the area clean.

Food and refreshments were provided at our Barker Street community centre for those taking part, and Mahdlo Youth Zone's Scran Van, which we help fund, was on site to provide meals for local children throughout the event.

The day was also an opportunity to engage with residents on wider community issues, including anti-social behaviour. We shared information about our new Respect Line and how customers can use it to report ASB concerns in their neighbourhoods.

Senior Neighbourhood Coordinator, Ben Collier, said: "We want families to feel part of their community and take pride in where they live, and the day was a fantastic example of partnership working in action.

"Alongside tackling litter and fly-tipping, we were able to have positive conversations with residents about looking after their neighbourhood, disposing of waste responsibly and playing an active role in shaping where they live."
