Super-dad from Derker is our May Hidden Hero

One of our customers who goes above and beyond volunteering at a local dads charity is our May Hidden Hero.

Robert Prestwich from Derker has been helping out at Men Behaving Dadly (MBD) since 2019.

The graphic designer uses his skills to help the charity, sets up sessions, and often represents it at community events – all in his own time.

The 45-year-old dad to 11-year-old Serah received his certificate and a £50 shopping voucher from our Funding and Social Value Officer Kevin Field. He said he was humbled to receive the award.

“The group is just for dads or male caregivers and they are the best group of dads I’ve ever come across who are now my friends and their children are my daughter’s friends too,” he explained.

“Back when I joined the group, I didn’t have much money and couldn’t take my daughter on fancy days out, so I began attending Men Behaving Dadly and met this wonderful community. As well as the weekly group sessions we organise barbecues, trips to the park, to the cinema – we’ve even started having the occasional dads night out for those who can make it. It really is something special.”

Rob was nominated for the award by activity coordinator at MBD Rachel Graham.

“Rob consistently goes above and beyond to support our group and the wider community, often without recognition and he really embodies the values of MBD,” she said.

“He helped redesign our logo and graphics and regularly supports the planning and development of sessions outside of group hours.

“He also represents MBD at many community events such as GM Live Well sessions and has contributed to our research projects, helping to ensure the voices of dads are heard.

“Rob’s dedication, positivity, and genuine care for others make a significant difference to the lives of the dads and families we work with, and he really is a true Hidden Hero who deserves to step out into the limelight.”
