Partnership clean-up supports community celebration ahead of Love Parks Week 2026

Partners came together at Coalshaw Green Park in Chadderton this week to help spruce up the much-loved community space ahead of a local celebration and Love Parks Week 2026. 

Project Free, the Greater Manchester arm of Red Rose Recovery joined FCHO colleague volunteers to carry out a litter pick at the park and surrounding area on Tuesday 21 July. 

As well as collecting the bags, FCHO’s Neighbourhood Care team also identified and removed two fly-tips from the Nelson Way area. 

The park and its approaches have been cleaned and tidied ahead of a community fun event on Friday 24 July, hosted by Fullcircle NW CIC with support from Ridge, one of FCHO’s contractors. 

The initiative also comes ahead of Love Parks Week 2026, which runs from 24 July to 2 August and encourages people to enjoy, respect and protect their local green spaces. 

Naomi Martin-Smith said: “Litter on the streets and improving green spaces are issues that are raised frequently by our customers. Love Parks Week and events like it, give us an opportunity to come together and work in partnership with local, grassroots community organisations to improve neighbourhoods together. 

“By bringing together colleagues and partners we’ve been able to make a visible difference to Coalshaw Green Park and the surrounding area ahead of the community fun event. 

“If there’s a group of residents or a community group in your area taking action to improve your neighbourhood, let us know. We’d love to support them.” 

Emma Sharkey, Project Coordinator from Red Rose Recovery said: 

"Community clean ups are a massive part of what we do. We jumped at the chance to help out. By working together to care for our communities, we create cleaner spaces, stronger connections and opportunities for recovery hope and belonging. By working side by side, we dont just clean our streets we strengthen connections that help people thrive."  

The clean-up highlighted the strength of local collaboration, with partners each playing a part in supporting residents and helping keep shared spaces clean, safe and enjoyable. 

Customers and residents are encouraged to take part in the community fun event at Coalshaw Green Park on Friday 24 July and to show their support for Love Parks Week by enjoying and looking after their local green spaces.
