New reverse graffiti campaign targets fly-tipping hotspots

17/08/2026

Customers and members of our community will start to notice a new kind of message appearing across our neighbourhoods as we step up efforts to tackle fly-tipping.

The Neighbourhood Care team has introduced reverse graffiti messages in key locations to encourage people to dispose of waste responsibly and help keep our communities clean and tidy.

Unlike traditional graffiti, reverse graffiti uses high-pressure cleaning equipment to create messages by removing dirt from pavements and hard surfaces. The result is a clear, eye-catching message with no paint, chemicals or lasting impact on the environment.

The first reverse graffiti messages have been installed outside the bin stores on Eldon Street, an area that has experienced ongoing issues with fly-tipping. The messages have been designed to remind customers and residents that dumping waste is not acceptable and to promote pride in the local area.

The Neighbourhood Care team will now be rolling out similar messages in other known fly-tipping locations across our communities. By placing the messages where they are most likely to be seen, the team hopes to raise awareness, change behaviours and reduce the amount of waste being left illegally.

The initiative forms part of our wider work with Oldham Council to create cleaner, greener neighbourhoods and support residents in disposing of waste correctly. Alongside enforcement, education and regular clean-up activity, these highly visible messages offer another way to engage with communities and encourage everyone to play their part.
