Families benefit from our new affordable, energy efficient homes in Derker

Six families have moved into a new development of energy efficient, affordable homes in Oldham, following completion of our £1.3m scheme in the Derker neighbourhood.

The project on Flint Street consists of low carbon, four-bedroom family houses delivered with Friday Club Developments.

The build, which has received £252k Homes England grant funding, has breathed new life into a brownfield site and is part of our continued work to increase supply of affordable, sustainable homes locally to help meet housing need. We are bringing forward 1,100 high quality properties in Oldham and surrounding areas between 2020 and 2026, to improve the lives of local people.

All homes at the new development are off gas, with a high energy performance rating and state-of-the-art green technologies to support customers to keep their bills down and reduce their carbon emissions.

Features include waste heat recovery pumps used to produce low-cost hot water, an innovative heated skirting board system, in place of traditional radiators, and increased insulation to help keep homes warmer for longer.

Joel Owen, our Director of Development said: “There’s a severe shortage of affordable homes locally and we’re working hard to address this by building as many high quality, energy efficient homes as we can for people in housing need.

“These great new homes at Flint Street are a good example of how we’re doing that.

“With their off-gas design and other eco-friendly features, these properties will support customers to minimise energy consumption and running costs and help us move towards net zero targets, and I’m pleased to see residents settling in.”
