Children at Heywood primary school to name a new street
09/06/2026
Last week, our Stronger Communities team launched a ‘name our street’ competition with local pupils at Our Lady’s and St Paul’s primary school in Heywood.
The school is located a stone’s-throw away from our new development off Bury Old Road which is set to be completed in May next year.
Pupils are getting involved by creating pieces of artwork that feature a street name which they have come up with. The themes explore local history around the area from people who have had an impact on the area to landmarks and buildings, as well as stories, memories or community traditions. A winner from each class will receive a craft set and the overall winner will receive a Samsung Galaxy tablet provided by our development partner, Built Developments, and the knowledge that their entry will become the name of our new street!
Ghazalla Iqbal, our Project and Partnerships Officer said: “We’re delighted to be giving local children the opportunity to play a part in shaping our new development. By exploring the local history, landmarks and community stories of the area, pupils can celebrate what makes the neighbourhood special while leaving a lasting legacy for future residents. We can’t wait to see the creativity and imagination that comes through in the entries.”
The winners will be announced later this month. Keep your eyes peeled!
