Appeal for information after four trees vandalised on Barker Street estate

17/07/2026

We are seeking information after four trees were vandalised on the Barker Street estate.
The Cherry and Rowan trees aged from five to 20 years old have had their bark stripped. Experts said two will die because of the extent of the damage. The cost of replacement is £500 per tree and we have called the police about the incident outside the Finchcroft and Tentercroft blocks.
“We’d very much like to know more information about the unacceptable and mindless damage to these trees. If anyone does know who caused it then please contact FCHO and we will pass this on to Greater Manchester Police,” said FCHO Head of Neighbourhood Care David Wrigley.
“These trees – a haven for wildlife - do so much to make this neighbourhood a nice place to live and I know FCHO staff and customers are upset it has happened.
“I also know many people will find it difficult to understand why someone would do this.
"Such anti-social behaviour is not without cost either. The bill to replace these trees is £1000 which is extra money we have to find."
Anyone with information should contact FCHO on 0161 393 7117.
