Working jointly with GMP to tackle anti-social behaviour in Coldhurst

Our Neighbourhood Officer Lisa joined GMP’s Central Oldham team on Monday for a mini-operation in Coldhurst to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB).

The operation, organised by GMP, saw Lisa join officers on patrols around the area following a recent rise in ASB-related crime and incidents by youths who live on the Coldhurst and St Mary’s estate.

Lisa said: “The purpose of the patrols was to flood the area joined-up presence of local authorities and provide reassurance to members of the local community.

“We also spoke with people who are likely to engage in ASB such as those loitering in stairwells, showing rowdy, inconsiderate behaviour, dropping litter and not observing government guidelines in relation to the pandemic.

“It was really useful to accompany GMP in this operation and target some of the troubles that have been ongoing in the area and as an organisation, further our knowledge of some of the underlying issues in this particular neighbourhood.”

Lauretta Rothery, our Head of Tenancy and Neighbourhood Services added, said: “We have always had great working relationships with local policing teams and other agencies to help keep our communities as safe as possible.

“We’re currently creating neighbourhood plans which will be underpinned by local action plans, covering all areas of Oldham where we have housing stock. As part of this we’re consulting with customers on a number of different areas including how safe they feel within their homes and surrounding areas. Our plan is to then use this insight to shape how we deliver our services in the future.”
