We’re supporting a new nature boardwalk at Royton Linear Park
13/08/2025
We’re proud to be backing an exciting new educational trail for young visitors to Royton’s Linear Park.
The Nature Boardwalk Project, led by the Friends of Royton Linear Park in partnership with Oldham College students, will guide visitors through wildflower areas and pollinator-friendly planting. Along the way, signposts will help children identify plants, insects, and trees.
Oldham College students are playing a big part in bringing the project to life, helping with construction, artwork, and marketing. Our contribution is funding essential materials such as compost, mature plants, and shrubs, as well as supporting efforts to track the project’s impact and promote it in the community.
To celebrate and raise awareness, a family fun day will take place on Sunday 17 August at the park.
Our stronger communities Manager Naomi Martin-Smith said: “Our support builds on our strong partnership with the Friends group, following previous work together on the fruit trail and community events. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to boost biodiversity, improve access to green spaces, and support community wellbeing.”
Friends group leader Shirley Ann Brown added: “This project benefits the community while creating a positive environment for wildlife. It also offers college students a fantastic hands-on learning experience. We’re grateful to FCHO for helping make it possible.”
Work is already underway, with construction students starting the path earlier this year. The boardwalk is due for completion in September, while the Friends group has been busy preparing the site for planting over summer.
