Thirteen customers get the keys to new homes in Werneth

Thirteen families have got the keys to their new homes at the Suthers Court development in Werneth, we’re pleased to announce.

The twelve 3-bedroom and one 4-bedroom family homes, which are all for affordable rent, are the first of our new properties to be completed at the development by house builder, Keepmoat Homes.

Work started on site in November 2019 and forms part of the wider regeneration of the area.

Over the next five months, we will be taking handover of another 32 two, three and four bedroom properties at the development located near Edward Street, north Werneth. These will enable us to provide a total of 45 much needed homes to local people.

We have invested £7.9 million in the homes at Suthers Court and received £1.75 million funding from Homes England. The homes form part of our ambitious development programme which aims to help bridge the housing gap in Oldham and surrounding areas.

Jihan Hussein is moving into one of the new homes with her husband and three children. She says she is looking forward to the positive difference the new home will make to her and her family.

“We have been living in a one bedroom flat for five years and we’ve been bidding on bigger properties all this time without success,” explains Jihan.

“The flat is very small for us and we don’t have a garden or any outdoor space for my children to run around in, which they are always asking for. The new house has plenty of space inside and a great back garden for us all to enjoy too and it will make a world of difference to us. We loved the house and the development when we viewed it and I think we’ll be very happy.”

Danielle Ashworth, our Head of Development said:  “There’s high demand for affordable housing in Oldham and we’re working hard to create more high quality, modern, safe places for local people to live. We’re on track to build 850 new properties over the next six years, housing around 3,500 people. These 45 new homes will help us achieve our targets and I wish Mrs Hussein and our other customers all the best in their new homes.”
