Team effort transforms Chadderton ahead of summer fun
08/08/2025
This week, colleagues from our stronger communities and neighbourhoods’ teams joined forces with Oldham Council to give parts of Chadderton a well-deserved spruce-up, following concerns from local residents about litter, drug misuse, and anti-social behaviour.
On Tuesday, colleagues came together for a big litter pick around Kempton Way and Newbury Walk – collecting an impressive 12 bags of rubbish (weighing 75kg!), along with broken furniture and discarded nitrous oxide canisters.
The clean-up comes just in time for the community summer holiday play sessions with Oldham Play Action Group, which we have supported to help bring families together for fun activities in Kempton Way on 7, 14, and 28 August.
Naomi Martin Smith, FCHO’s Stronger Communities Manager, explained: “We know how important it is to listen to our customers and work together to keep our neighbourhoods looking their best. By tackling the litter and other issues, we’re helping to build community pride and create a safer, more welcoming space – ready for the children’s summer holiday sessions that so many families look forward to.
This is just one part of the work we’re doing to make Chadderton a great place to live. We take anti-social behaviour very seriously and will continue to take action where it’s needed.”
Hajarah Begum, Oldham Council’s Community Engagement Officer for Oldham West, added: “Thank you to the residents who raised their concerns – your voices made this clean-up happen. By working with FCHO, we’ve not only cleared up the area but also set the stage for a summer of family fun.
We hope these events will showcase the potential of this space and encourage everyone to help keep it looking great in the future.”
With teamwork and community spirit, Chadderton is ready to shine this summer.
