Tackling crime in Derker with Operation Vulcan
26/06/2025
We want everyone to feel safe in their homes and communities. That’s why we’re working with Greater Manchester Police to take strong action against serious crime in Derker. As part of Operation Vulcan, we’ve started the process to evict nine customers involved in criminal activity. We’ve issued notices while the police continue their work in the area, and we’re proud to support them as a partner in this important operation.
Working closely with GMP, we’re supporting efforts to disrupt organised crime and anti-social behaviour that has caused harm to residents. As a partner agency, we’re proud to play our part in helping to restore safety and confidence in the community.
We know how important it is for our customers to feel safe in their homes, and we’ll continue to take firm action wherever it’s needed.
Of the nine notices, six are related to drug offences, three concern weapons and firearms, and one is for theft. These notices cover areas including Derker, Chadderton, Sholver, Littlemoor, and Oldham town centre.
“We continue to work closely with Operation Vulcan and play our part in helping the police to clear criminals out of Derker and other areas of Oldham borough,” said Chief Executive, Mark Gifford.
“The tentacles of criminality are long, and we are working with GMP and Oldham Council almost daily regarding any more of our properties involved in criminal enterprises. This work includes intelligence sharing, joint visits, estate walkabouts, action days, and regular meetings to assist officers.”
Mr. Gifford added, “We are committed to tackling anti-social behaviour and criminality in our properties and communities. We look forward to continuing to support Operation Vulcan long term when it enters its ‘hold’ and ‘build’ phases, and we thank Greater Manchester Police for its very effective work and the dedication of its officers.”
Inspector Dan Cullum from GMP’s Vulcan team said, “Since our deployment in Derker, we have established strong working relationships with partners such as FCHO to ensure a collaborative approach. FCHO has responded robustly to tenants who engage in criminal or anti-social behaviour. These tenants will be fully aware that continued anti-social behaviour could jeopardise their tenancy agreements, potentially leading to eviction or a community banning order.”
The six notices of possession for drug offences are at properties in Glebe Street, Chadderton, Pemberton Way, Shaw, two on Hillside Close, Sholver, and two in Littlemoor House, Littlemoor. The three concerned with firearms offences are at Florian House, town centre, Vulcan Street, Derker, and Counthill Road, Littlemoor. The theft notice is at an address in Vulcan Street, Derker.
We have also issued seven warning letters to customers in Oldham town centre, Littlemoor, and Higginshaw following evidence of drug and firearms offences.
