Oldham College awards FCHO for quality T Level placements

03/09/2025

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a T Level Employer Partnership Award by Oldham College, in recognition of our high-quality placements that are helping students to train for their chosen career.

Representatives from Oldham College visited First Place last Wednesday to present the award, which highlights the success of a collaborative programme that has seen three students complete year-long placements within our development team. The placements formed part of the students T Level qualifications in design, surveying and planning.

Throughout the programme, the students gained 750 hours of hands-on experience, developing practical skills and a deeper understanding of the housing sector and the built environment.

One of the students, Luke Martin-Smith, shared his experience:

“My placement at FCHO has been a valuable experience. I’ve gained practical skills and confidence that I know will help me at university and in my future career as a quantity surveyor.
Working with the development team gave me the chance to see how projects are planned and delivered in real life, not just in the classroom. It has also supported me to gain part-time employment and provided me with a reference.”

Lee Harland, Work Experience Manager at Oldham College, praised FCHO’s role in supporting learners:

“FCHO’s commitment to developing our students' skills through numerous placements, workshops and inspiring guest speakers is invaluable in shaping the future of our learners.”

Chief Executive Mark Gifford added:

“We’re proud to be recognised by Oldham College with this award. Our partnership is vitally important in allowing young people in our town to gain the skills, qualifications and experience they need to follow their dreams.
As we look to double our apprenticeships in a few years’ time, our great work with Oldham College is set to continue for many years to come.”

All three students successfully completed their T Levels with distinction, merit and pass grades, and have now accepted places at the University of Salford to study quantity surveying.

Thank you to all colleagues who have been involved with supporting the students and strengthening our relationship with Oldham College.
