Oldham Athletic owner Frank Rothwell visited us to raise awareness of prostate cancer

Oldham Athletic owner Frank Rothwell visited a local housing association's head office last week to raise awareness of prostate cancer.

Mr Rothwell, a survivor of the disease, was a guest speaker at First Choice Homes Oldham's (FCHO) Union Street offices for a prostate cancer awareness lunch and learn session for staff last Thursday.

The 74-year-old is a well-known figure across Oldham and deeply passionate about improving awareness and supporting others affected by the disease.

His charity work has raised £1.5 million, and he came to FCHO to talk during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month alongside Prostate Cancer Support chairman Phil Ormesher and volunteers Eric and Susan Richardson.

“We had a genuine Oldham VIP in our office on Thursday who cares about beating this terrible disease - the most common cancer in UK men, with around 64,000 new cases each year,” said FCHO chief executive Mark Gifford.

“I know our staff really appreciated Frank giving his time to come to talk about this important subject in such an open and engaging way. 

"He has the thanks of everyone at FCHO for giving that time and for raising so much money for charity.”

Mr Rothwell added: “It’s important to me to spread awareness of prostate cancer because I’ve survived it – 15 years strong. If you’ve got symptoms or if you have a family history, go to the doctors and ask for a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test.”
