Mossylea development brings 29 much‑needed affordable homes to Middleton

11/03/2026

We are proud to have transformed a former brownfield site in Middleton into  a new neighbourhood of 29 high‑quality, affordable homes.

We have delivered this £7.1 million scheme to provide a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership properties, meeting local housing needs. Rochdale Council leader, Councillor Neil Emmott, recently visited the development to see the completed homes first‑hand.

The Mossylea development includes 21 homes for affordable rent, allocated through the council’s housing register, along with eight shared ownership homes.

Councillor Emmott said: "Having served as a Middleton councillor for many years, I know this area particularly well.

"I can’t think of a better use of this brownfield site than to see it repurposed into attractive homes for our residents.

"This is exactly the kind of project we support as a council and I know it will be welcomed by the many local people who are waiting for a home."

Councillor Danny Meredith, cabinet member for housing and regeneration, also toured the site.

Councillor Meredith said: "In Rochdale borough, we’ve declared a housing emergency because we know families need homes.

"So, it's great to see this here in Middleton - homes for families and for people who need them."

Jayne Lawson, Executive Director of Customer Experience, thanked both councillors for their visit.

She said: "These are 29 new homes built to help to tackle the housing emergency.

"We were very pleased to show them around and for them to see the high standard the development has delivered."

Ms Lawson added that FCHO plans to build a further 600 new homes in the coming years, including additional schemes in Middleton and Heywood.

The Mossylea Close development includes 24 three-bedroom houses, three two-bedroom houses, and two two-bedroom bungalows.
