Have Your Say: Could new community planters help make neighbourhoods greener?

16/01/2026

We’re asking customers across our communities to share their views on introducing new planters at the gateways to our neighbourhoods - helping to boost biodiversity, brighten up local streets, and bring nature closer to home.

As part of our National Trust pledge, we’re committed to making the local landscape more beautiful and creating more nature‑friendly zones across Oldham. Adding attractive, wildlife‑supporting planters to neighbourhood entrances is one idea we’re exploring, and we want to know what you think.

Why planters?

These planters could help to:

  • Increase biodiversity by providing nectar‑rich flowers and plants for bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
  • Enhance the appearance of our neighbourhoods and create a welcoming environment for residents and visitors.
  • Support cleaner, greener spaces by bringing more planting into urban areas.
  • Strengthen community pride and create local spaces that everyone can enjoy.

Your views matter

Before we move forward, we want to understand the appetite from our customers and communities. Would planters like these be a positive addition to your neighbourhood? Are there particular locations where you think they would work well? Is there anything you’d like us to consider when designing or maintaining them?

Your feedback will help shape our approach and ensure that any improvements reflect what matters most to you.
