First affordable homes completed at Mossylea development
10/07/2025
This month, we received the first three affordable homes from the Mossylea Close development in Middleton. Brookhouse Group is building on the brownfield site, and by the end of the year, we at First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) will have taken delivery of 29 properties in total, at a cost of £7.138 million.
Once complete, our housing stock will include two two-bedroom bungalows, three two-bedroom houses, and 24 three-bedroom houses.
“We’re very pleased to see the first of these new properties joining our housing stock this week and providing much-needed affordable homes for people in Middleton,” said Steve Agger, FCHO Executive Director of Homes.
“There will now be a phased delivery of the other properties until December, allowing many of the new occupants to be in their new homes by Christmas.
“All the new properties are energy efficient to keep bills down and help tackle climate change. Many are also family homes – something that is very much needed in the local area.”
Twenty-one of the homes are for affordable rent, set at no more than 80% of market rent. The remaining eight properties are shared ownership – to help the next generation of homeowners take their first step on the property ladder, Mr Agger added.
All the homes are equipped with solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, helping customers reduce their energy bills and lower their carbon footprint, which includes improved insulation to reduce heat loss through walls and floors, an energy efficient heating system and electric vehicle charging points. Each property also boasts an EPC A rating - the highest possible rating on the Energy Performance Certificate scale.
The project received £1.2m Homes England grant funding.
We intend to build around 300 properties by the end of 2028 as we continues to increase our housing stock and, importantly, offer affordable, high-quality, sustainable and secure new homes for the people of the Oldham area.
