Building stronger neighbourhoods: FCHO funds Chadderton celebration

01/09/2025

We are thrilled to have helped bring neighbours together in Chadderton with a community celebration marking a successful summer of activities in the Busk area.

Working alongside Oldham Play Action Group, Action Together, and Oldham Council, FCHO has supported a series of initiatives designed to create local pride and tackle anti-social behaviour.

The programme began with a community litter pick and was followed by a month of summer play sessions delivered by Oldham Play Action Group. Funded by FCHO, these sessions offered families the chance to enjoy sports, arts and crafts, and a wide range of activities throughout August.

To round off the season, FCHO contributed £500 towards a celebration held on Kempton Way and Newbury Walk. The event welcomed local residents, with Councillor Eliane Taylor and Yuvanis Foundation Chief Executive Zakir Ahmad among the guests.

Laura Branthwaite, FCHO’s Director of Asset Investment Delivery, said:
“Days like this are a great way to celebrate the real progress in community spirit in Busk. But our work goes beyond a single clean-up or activity — it’s about building pride, trust and stronger neighbourhood connections. By investing in community-led initiatives, we’re tackling anti-social behaviour while also giving families and young people the chance to thrive in safe, welcoming places.”

Mr Ahmad added:
“I grew up here and still have close ties to the area. Events like this are vital to bringing people together, neighbours don’t always know each other, and these activities create opportunities to connect and involve children in positive experiences.”

Looking ahead, FCHO’s anti-social behaviour team will continue to support the community into autumn and winter, focusing on tackling rough sleeping and drug-related issues reported by residents.
