Alt community event helped residents tackle winter cost of living pressures
12/11/2025
Customers in Alt came together on Tuesday this week, for a community engagement event aimed at helping households cope with rising costs during the winter months.
The event, hosted by the Stronger Communities Team in partnership with Sustainability, Community Impact, Live Well, YES Energy Solutions, Connollys and Reel CIC, took place at Alt Community Centre (Alt Cafe) from 10am to 1pm.
Attendees accessed free, practical energy advice from YES Energy Solutions, including tips on reducing bills and information on available funding and government grants for insulation, retrofit works and renewable technologies.
Connollys showcased retrofit improvements taking place across the estate, explaining how the work would make homes warmer and more energy efficient. Community Impact offered benefit and budgeting advice and promoted reduced-cost food services to help customers stretch their income further.
Reel CIC highlighted its upcoming four-week wellbeing course, designed to build confidence and resilience, while Live Well shared details of services that support independent living.
The event was open to all residents, including customers, leaseholders and private owners, with a focus on the Alt community.
Organisers said the initiative formed part of a wider commitment to support people through ongoing cost of living challenges, particularly during the colder months when energy bills are at their highest.
Naomi Martin-Smith, Stronger Communities Manager, said:
"We know winter can be a difficult time for many households, so bringing partners together under one roof was about giving residents practical, on-the-spot support. From energy-saving advice to wellbeing and financial guidance, this event was designed to help people feel more confident and resilient in managing the months ahead."
