73 new trees coming to Oldham thanks to £44K funding boost

We’re excited to share that we will be planting 73 new trees across Royton, Shaw, Delph, and Chadderton this winter, thanks to nearly £44,000 in funding from City of Trees - a Greater Manchester initiative committed to growing an urban forest across the region.

David Wrigley, Head of Neighbourhood Care, said:

"These trees will make a big difference to these communities and we’re very pleased to receive this money from a brilliant regional project.

"Having more trees, located in the right places in our communities helps with biodiversity and it helps our customers too as they foster a sense of peace and wellbeing that is so important.

"Work planting them will start in November and end in March and we hope our customers in these areas will step forward to help care for them too."

The planting will begin in November and continue through to March, introducing a diverse mix of species including beech, hawthorn, hornbeam, ginkgo biloba, birch, sycamore, and whitebeam.

To help the trees thrive, we are encouraging customers to become Tree Guardians, especially during the trees’ early years. This is a great opportunity for customers to get involved in caring for their local environment.
