£6.79m investment to deliver 24 affordable family homes in Middleton
06/11/2025
We’re proud to announce that we have signed a £6.79 million contract to deliver 24 new family homes on a long-disused brownfield site in Middleton.
The development, located off Greenhill Road on the former JW Lees transport depot, will be brought to life by locally based construction firm J Walker Homes. The project will include sixteen homes for social rent and eight homes available through rent to buy.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the two and three-bedroom properties will feature green technologies such as solar panels and will achieve an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of at least B.
Construction is set to begin this month, with completion expected by May 2027.
FCHO Executive Director of Homes, Steve Agger, spoke on the announcement and said:
“This is an exciting new project to add more high-quality and energy efficient family properties to our housing stock in Middleton.
“We are breathing new life into a derelict piece of brownfield land unused for 15 years and transforming it into these much-needed family homes that address the housing crisis in the area.
"Partnering once again with J Walker Homes is another positive aspect of the project. It is an established local company based just a stone’s throw from Greenhill Road with a track record of using local contractors and apprentices."
Funding for the scheme includes investment from FCHO, alongside £2.16 million from Homes England and a £480,000 grant from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
This development is part of our ongoing commitment to creating more affordable, sustainable homes and strengthening communities across Oldham and beyond.
