£6.4m housing scheme to deliver dozens of new homes

04/03/2026

We’re pleased to share that last month we signed a contract to deliver 27 new affordable homes on a brownfield site off Bury Old Road in Heywood.

The homes will include 13 two-bedroom and 14 three-bedroom properties. Nineteen will be available for social rent, and eight offered as rent-to-buy. Built Developments Limited will deliver the scheme, with work due to start this month – completion is scheduled for May next year.

Andy Ewart, Executive Director of Corporate Services and Deputy Chief Executive, said: "First Choice Homes Oldham is really pleased we are now able to move at pace with this development of much-needed family homes for Rochdale Borough.

"These will be highly efficient off-gas properties with solar panels installed and they will be net zero.

"This means they will be very cheap to heat and run – a key consideration in all our new builds."

Financing for the project has come from FCHO plus a Homes England grant of £2.18 million and £540,000 from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority's Brownfield Housing Fund.

Mr Ewart added: "FCHO has a pipeline of developments across Oldham and Rochdale borough at locations where people want to live, that are enhancing existing communities and that are close to transport links and amenities."
