We've achieved SHIFT Silver status

17/01/2022

We're committed to improving our sustainability performance and have achieved Silver status in our first SHIFT assessment - an audit of how we are performing against challenging environmental targets.

Sustainability Homes Index for Tomorrow (SHIFT) is the sustainability standard for the housing sector and an independent assessment and accreditation scheme.

The performance of our homes and offices was assessed against a number of environmental factors such as the carbon emissions associated with our activities, energy and water use, how much waste we recycle, and how ethically we procure goods and services.

The report shows us where our current strengths are and will help us define actions for improvement, informing our approach to delivering our Sustainability Strategy 2021-26.

Headlines from our assessment report show we perform well in areas such as carbon reporting, energy and water use in our offices and waste recycling.

The report made recommendations on how we can improve areas including incorporating more energy saving technology in our new homes; carrying out more environmental retrofits to our existing homes, improving the environmental information we provide to our customers and helping our customers to recycle more of their waste.

Simon Davies, FCHO Energy Efficiency & Sustainability Manager said: “At FCHO we are in the early stages of our sustainability journey, but we know that finding ways to be reduce our environmental impact is crucial for tackling climate change and delivering lots of other important benefits – from helping customers to save money, reducing fuel poverty and providing quality homes that are fit for the future; to boosting the economy and creating jobs too.

"Our first SHIFT assessment gives us a strong foundation on which we can build and I look forward to the results we can all achieve together between now and 2026.”
