Update: Great Get Together 2019

Applications for The Great Get Together are now closed. Applications will no longer be accepted.

Applications will be reviewed with decisions made and applicants will be notified by the end of this week.

The Great Get Together is the UK's annual get together for neighbours. The Great Get Together is inspired by Jo Cox, who was killed on 16th June 2016. We believe there is a groundswell of people who reject divisive politics and simply want to bring our communities together and celebrate all that unites us. The Great Get Together will take place over the weekend of 21st – 23rd June.

People all over the country are being invited to come together with friends, neighbours and others they don’t yet know for street parties, picnics, barbeques and bake-off competitions. The weekend will be an opportunity to celebrate all that Britain’s diverse communities hold in common than that which divides us.An event can be anything from a small gathering in a garden, park or driveway, to a larger party with trestle tables down the middle of your street.

Many neighbours and groups will be able to put on a lunch without any additional funding. For those who will need a little help we have received some funding to help as many people take part as possible.

We are able to award up to £100 in either cash or your choice of supermarket voucher from Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's, to support local Great Get Together activities and events across the Oldham area. Ideas could include:

  • A Street Party
  • Community Barbeque
  • A Pot Luck Supper
  • A Picnic
  • Anything that brings people together to acknowledge that we have more in common

Funding Guidance


  • We will prioritise applications that are being especially organised to celebrate the Great Get Together, as opposed to regular or annual events that are merely being re-branded as Great Get together Events.
  • All events and activities must take place between 21st - 23rd June 2019.

A condition of the grant is that you must display the official Respect Our Community Awards (ROCA) logo prominently on all marketing and publicity material, and that you give permission for the event to be more widely publicised if appropriate via our social media.  In addition, for this Fund, we will not pay for the cost of purchasing alcohol or fireworks.
