Praise from HSE during coronavirus at our new development site, Royley

21/08/2020

We’re busy transforming vacant land in Royton into a glorious new development.

The area, known as Royley, will comprise 13 family homes available for affordable rent. Work started on site in summer 2019 with contractor J Walker Homes, with project completion set for January 2021.

To allow the development to progress safely during the coronavirus outbreak, we’ve worked closely with J Walker Homes to ensure appropriate health and safety measures have been introduced on site.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) visited Royley on Monday 3 August 2020 for a specific inspection relating to coronavirus. HSE is the government body responsible for the regulation and enforcement of workplace health, safety and welfare at organisations employing five people or more.

We’re delighted to report that HSE inspectors were very satisfied with all the control measures that have been introduced by J Walker Homes and pleased with the steps that have been taken to address any future risks with regards to the virus. Particular credit was given to the doorbell feature on site. The site is cordoned off by a perimeter fence and lock gate with a doorbell. Anyone wanting to enter the site must ring the doorbell and wait until they are greeted by the site manager who supervises the visit and ensure all safety measures are adhered to.

Stuart Henderson, Health and Safety Advisor at FCHO, said: “This is a fantastic outcome for both us and J Walker Homes. The safety of our staff, our contractors and customers, is our number one priority.

“Many organisations had to adapt quickly and efficiently in several ways due to the implications of coronavirus, and with that came tremendous pressure on health and safety departments so it’s great to hear that our joint efforts have been efficient in keeping people safe.

“We’ll carry on working closely with J Walker Homes to ensure we remain fully compliant while the outbreak is ongoing.”

Jon Walker, Director at J Walker Homes, said: “It’s always good to have positive feedback relating to our team efforts in keeping everyone who works and visits our Royley site safe during the coronavirus outbreak, especially when the endorsement comes from a governing body such as HSE.

"We will continue to work closely with FCHO to maintain and improve upon our site procedures in the future.”
