Giant opportunities event for Oldham residents to offer employment and skills advice

10 October 2019

Residents in Oldham are invited to attend a giant opportunities event on Tuesday 15th October. Directions Day hosted by First Choice Homes Oldham is a free event offering expert support in finding employment and training opportunities, drafting applications and perfecting interview skills.

Working in partnership with other providers such as The National Careers Service and Get Oldham Working, the event will take place at First Place, 22 Union Street, between 10-12pm and is open to anyone in the area looking to access education, placement or work opportunities.

Employment and skills experts from FCHO will be on hand to offer free help and advice to anyone looking to make a new start in training or work. Computers will be available for job searches and attendees can arrange a mock interview with FCHO staff members.

Michelle Tomlin, Employment and Skills Manager at FCHO said; “Searching for work and training opportunities can be really overwhelming and our event is all about making the process easier and helping people to shine in their applications and interviews.

“Our friendly Directions team members work with local people every day to navigate the job market, identify the skills they have that employers are looking for and support them with all stages of applying. The team are the best people to speak to if you have any questions, big or small, about your future career.

Being able to go through a mock interview is a hugely valuable opportunity, too. We know it can be daunting, but it’s a fantastic chance to learn and the team will be able to give you feedback to help you promote yourself and your skills.”

FCHO’s Directions Service works all across Oldham and is there to support people into sustainable work through advice sessions, events and outreach. Last year the team supported 285 people into jobs, created 68 work experience opportunities at FCHO and helped 55 people to gain new qualifications.
